While our Johor comrades were lobbying for top SGM leaders to take action against certain individual for mishandling of funds and to implement a governance process and structure in place, the same SGM top leaders sent memos criticizing our Johor comrades with the intention to create fear, doubt and uncertainty. Instead of taking actions to establish a governance process, the memos blamed the issue as being the appearance of 3 obstacles and 4 devils and our Johor comrades as not having mentor and disciple spirit. In one memo, Johor comrades were accused of creating disharmony and not following GD’s guidance and as a result, they are not following SGM and are slandering the Law.

Nov 2015 – establishment of the Executive Central Committee (ECC) made up of 6 top leaders presiding over the 20-man General Council. In the same month, SGM also demoted many leaders from their chief positions. These leaders were guilty of asking questions, for seeking answers.

May 2016 – in one major swoop, SGM issued termination letters to 10 Region and Honbu leaders in Johor. Unlike the Nov 2015 demotion, this time, the leaders were stripped off their leadership titles and became members. One Vice General Director in KL was terminated for asking too many uncomfortable questions. Johor leaders responded by tendering their resignation in mass where more than 400 leaders resigned in protest. SGM took even harsher and in-compassionate actions – meeting venue appointments (permits) in Johor were removed, making these houses unable to conduct group meetings anymore.

After the termination, some Justice group (RJ2) leaders and members in Johor were asked to return their Gohonzon. When this news hit the grassroots leaders , the sentiment became worse even among non-supporters of the Justice group (RJ2). Many members who came to know about the possible return of Gohonzon were dissatisfied and they viewed SGM top leadership in Johor and ECC in KL as lack of compassion and full of ego. After realizing that the decision to take back the Gohonzon was unpopular even among their supporters, SGM leaders decided to make a U-turn, which was to allow members of Justice group (now member of NBA) to continue keeping their Gohonzon. We could see from this instance that SGM leaders will not hesitate to silence the voices of justice by any means, including demanding the return of Gohonzon and they will only back off when things are not favourable to them.

July 2016 – having been pushed to a corner and needing an entity to practice, Johor group formed their own organisation called Nichiren Buddhist Association (NBA). The purpose is so that they can continue to learn and practice Buddhism and to also continue propagating Buddhism in Johor. The Justice group (RJ2) members could not continue to hold meetings in their respective houses because their Society Venue Appointment (permit) has been revoked and their meetings can be viewed as illegal gathering since they do not have a legal entity. This explain the reason why the Justice group in Johor need to form a formal organisation so that they were able to hold meetings.

Aug 2016 – SGM sent out memo requesting leaders  conducting discussion meetings to share about the establishment of NBA and to warn members about this organisation. Many leaders refused to share in discussion meetings. Unlike Nikken sect which twisted the Daishonin words and doctrines for their own benefits, the NBA was established because they were pushed to the corner for asking questions about the governance of SGM financial records and the organization structure. NBA did not twist and change the teachings of the Buddha and yet, they were persecuted like Nikken sect.

SGM also sent out another memo and calling for an adhoc All Leaders Meet in respective states throughout the country. In the memo, SGM revealed that “this (Johor) incident has finally ended. The ultimate purpose of the two years’ petitions from Rescue Johor 2 (RJ2), is to form their own organisation”. Many leaders questioned the intention of this memo, citing that SGM is using cover-up tactics and trying to sweep the whole incident under the carpet, again, ignoring pleas to addressed the issues at hand.

Let us again ponder about it. If the real intention of the Justice group (RJ2) is to form their own organisation, then these RJ2 comrades do not need to wait for 2 years. If we were to analyse the timeline again, we could see that it was just right after the termination of the Johor leaders and venue permit being revoked where RJ2 comrades have no where to turn to and have no choice but to form NBA organisation.

Some SGM top leaders also claimed that to register an organisation in Malaysia is difficult and it will take many procedures. This is the reason it took RJ2 two years to register their organisation and hence, their successful formation of NBA proved to be their ‘ultimate purpose’. Is this true? At the time of writing this post, the Registrar of Society (Malaysia) statistics showed that more than 3500 applications (2016) were approved and became legal entities. If it is difficult to obtain approval from ROS, then how is it possible for ROS to approve more than 3500 applications? The ROS website also has information on procedures needed to register a new organisation which is simple and straightforward. Therefore, what SGM claimed about the procedures was false. Updated!

Oct 2016 – some of the leaders who used to be in gokuyo working committee were not called for meeting to prepare for Oct gokuyo. They were totally sidelined and ignored. No calls to tell them that their services are not needed this round. What a disrespectful act. As expected, gokuyo attendance and contribution collected saw a drastic drop.

Nov 2016 – a couple of key chiefs specifically YMD chief was demoted. A new inexperienced man was appointed to take on that role. Some say he’s a yes-man. Read more in QuietRevo.

Dec 2016 – SGI Asia Culture and Education Center was opened. Only the chosen ones get to go. If you are not in their good shoes, you don’t get to attend the opening ceremony. GD even have to give a 5-10 minute message to try and pacify those who were disappointed, trying to give encouraging words such as ‘you can always go to the Center next time’.

January 2017 – New Year gongyo gokuyo continues despite call for putting that aside until we have more governance in place. Granted, this time, SGM included a paper in the envelop such that if you would like a receipt, they will mail you one.

8 Jan 2017 – Black Day. More leaders were demoted and sacked. This time, the sacking was through a last minute call or a WhatsApp the day before the All Leaders Meet. Whatever happened to proper process and procedures? These leaders came to the ALM the following days and were denied access to IPA. They started crying for justice and SGM called the police on them! On the other hand, more yes-men were appointed to take on the empty seats. Truly a sad and shameful day to be a SGM member.

March 2017 – All Leaders Meet. General Director started condemning the authors of Daylight and Quiet Revolution. He also stated that if people are not happy with SGM, then they should leave the organization. A speaker from SGI, Dr Ouchi parroted what GD said, which sounds suspiciously staged to us.
