It’s December. Time to come up with a list of resolutions for 2017. The Johor incident have indirectly broken SGM into four groups. As such, we would like to suggest resolutions for each of the group with the underlying same objective of unity, getting back together, reconciliation and moving forward.

十二月到来了，也是时候提出2017年的决意清单。柔佛事件间接地将SGM分成四组。 因此，我们希望为每个小组提出具有团结，回到一起，和解和前进的基本相同目标的决意。


A. SGM正义小组

这个小组希望能够得到正义和SGM的改革。 日光也属于此组。 为此建议2017年决议：
停止所有坏口语和闲话。
勇敢。 站在前线，继续要求与高层干部对话。 我们需要了解SGM在计划的情况。 永远记住，我们仍然在SGM，我们的行动必须匹配会友的幸福。

B. NBA

D. 站在SGM一侧的小组
该组是100%站在SGM：对该组2017年的决意提议：
停止对别人不良的批评。 是的停下来，他们正在寻求正义，听起来像他们反对SGM，但你知道为什么他们这样做，所以除非有妥当的检查和治理流程到位，请停止批评，八卦，怀疑和进一步的让SGM解散。
停止边缘化那些询问问题的干部和对待他们的态度。 他们也是SGM的一部分，他们也是跟你在这些年一同奋斗的同志。 他们平等的爱戴SGM。 只是他们对这个问题有不同的意见。 是不是有不同的意见也是个错？

It’s December. Time to come up with a list of resolutions for 2017. The Johor incident have indirectly broken SGM into four groups. As such, we would like to suggest resolutions for each of the group with the underlying same objective of unity, getting back together, reconciliation and moving forward.

A. Justice group within SGM

This group wants the truth and SGM to reform. Daylight falls within this group as well. Suggested 2017 resolution for ourselves:

  1. Stop all bad mouthing and gossips.
  2. Be courageous. Stand in the front line and continue to request for dialogues with top leaders. We need to be informed on what SGM has in plans. Always remember that we are still in SGM and our action has to match the love that we have for the happiness of our members.
  3. Be open minded, patience and willing to listen.
  4. Continue to educate people with facts about the Johor incident, not with ill intent.
  5. Chant victorious daimoku and we shall see the change that we desire.
  6. Continue to share our latest testimonials of faith and victory report in every meeting whenever we could. Share with others about our faith that led us to be victorious in life. Strengthen our understanding of Nichiren Buddhism through readings of Gosho.

At times, we may feel that others are sidelining or they may be giving us cold shoulders. Despite experiencing such encounters, Justice group followers be the first person to greet those who gave us cold shoulder and we should be the one who initiate sincere dialogue about faith and daily life. It isn’t always has to be on ‘current issue’. We do not expect others to do human revolution; we take the first step to initiate change and that change will start with our compassionate behaviour to communicate with those who had bad-mouth us.

B. NBA

This group loves Gakkai so much but felt frustrated and sidelined that they formed a new organization

  1. Strengthen your study and don’t deviate from Nichiren Daishonin spirit
  2. Remind yourself of your long term objective, which is to return back to SGM once things have settled. If that is no longer your objective, then practice as an independent body. There is no point is bad mouthing or finding flaws against SGM anymore. You are not trying to proof you are right anymore, nor are you trying to win back your face (pride) – remind yourself that you are trying to spread Nichiren Buddhism for other people’s happiness.

Always remember that you left Soka Gakkai due to disagreement with mismanagement issue and not because Soka Gakkai has deviate from Nichiren Daishonin’s Gosho. If the top leaders of NBA are researching for the true teachings of Nichiren Daishonin, then NBA has swayed from their initial reason of leaving SGM (mismanagement). It means that NBA leaders have doubts about Soka Gakkai’s interpretation of Nichiren Daishonin Buddhism. While it is alright to do comparative studies, it is also essential that NBA keep check on their on-going objectives and constantly be aware that NBA formation has nothing to do with Soka Gakkai being deviated from Nichiren’s Gosho.

Let’s resolve that these so called 4 group have no grouping anymore, because underlying it, we are all human, friends, all having our own daily challenges and needing of another human’s support. We all have an even bigger goal, this incident is very small when compared to this bigger goal.

C. The fence sitter group

This group stays silent. Maybe they are silently protesting. Maybe they are low profile. Maybe they don’t care. Maybe they just want to chant at home by themselves.

  1. seriously, don’t be a fence sitter and ignore what’s happening around you. Inaction is the biggest problem. Hiding under the coconut, oblivious of what’s out there is a regression in life.
  2. Keep yourself informed. Read this blog. Read A Quiet Revolution blog. Ask your leaders.
  3. Be open enough to listen to both SGM and NBA’s version of the Johor incident. You do not need to follow or take sides immediately; you just need to listen with an open mind. That will be a good start!.
  4. Do not treat NBA friends as ‘evil’ as SGM portrayed them. They are human beings just like you and me.

D. The group standing on SGM side

This group is with SGM 100%. Suggested 2017 resolution for this group:

  1. Stop bad mouthing people of differing opinion. Just stop. Yes, they are seeking justice and sound like they are against SGM, but you know why they do that, so unless the check and balance and governance process are in place, let’s just stop bad mouthing, gossiping, suspecting people and further breaking SGM apart
  2. Stop side-lining leaders who asked questions and treat them with cold shoulders. They are also part of SGM, they are your comrades who have done kosen-rufu with you all these years before this. They loved Gakkai equally. It’s just that they have a different opinion in regards to this matter. Is it wrong to have different opinion?
  3. Be confident in your belief. If you think SGM is right, then be confident of your belief and support your belief with facts, not blind faith. After all, righteousness always win, right? Study what SGM is doing in the four areas of transparency, righteousness, fairness and responsibility and have dialogue with the other groups and educate them.
  4. Treat NBA members as your friends. There are many SGM leaders and members, when asked whether they still treat NBA members as friends, whom they’d known for years even before the Johor incident happened – the answers mostly will be ‘Yes, I still treat them as my friends, nothing has change. Although they are in NBA but we are still friends‘. In reality, when these SGM leaders met NBA members whom they’d known for a long time, they didn’t even want to acknowledge or greet them even after the NBA members greeted them first. The question is: Is this how you treat your friends? Think again, stop lying to yourself. Are they your friends or foe? Daylight suggests that you make a resolution – treat them as how you would treat your friends. This is the time to do human revolution.

 

Ikeda Sensei once said that the borders of countries separating people are man-made. Take away this border and you will see that we are all human, worthy of respect. Let’s resolve that these so called 4 group have no grouping anymore, because underlying it, we are all human, friends, all having our own daily challenges and needing of another human’s support. We all have an even bigger goal, this incident is very small when compared to this bigger goal. All of us are worthy of respect despite what we may believe. At the end of the day, if you looked at the resolutions above, it can be summarized as simply, doing Human Revolution and human revolution can only start with us!

A great human revolution in just a single individual will help achieve a change in the destiny of a nation, and, further, will enable a change in the destiny of all humankind.
